We can be sure that there are two kinds of people in this world. The saved by God’s good grace (a.k.a. born again), and the unsaved. Both of which belong to God and were created for His glory. When we are born into this world it has already been decided by God to which group we are members of. For those whose names are written into the Lamb’s Book of Life, before the creation of the world (Revelation 17:8); you are the elect chosen by God for redemption and eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Hallelujah! But for those whom God created for the day of doom, the wicked of the earth who rebel against God and forsake the saving grace of the blood Jesus spilt for us on the cross, they will reap what they have sown in the day of disaster (Proverbs 16:4).
For those blinded souls there is no hope, we are saddened by this fact but know that it is for His glory we are created, both saved and unsaved unlike.
How does the saved know they are part of the elect of God. Here are some sure fire indicators that I will point out for you. First a saved person has a desire to obey and please God. This is impossible for a natural man born of the flesh and void of spirit. God’s elect will be born with the desire to seek God. For the unsaved person the things of God are foolishness to their depraved minds. Even the things presented by the Holy Spirit cannot be understood by them (1 Corinthians 2:14).
God knew who would lack the desire to seek and obey Him when He was planning salvation. God designed salvation without conditions, for He knew no man could perform any (Romans 3:10-18). God’s elect understand that Salvation is a work already accomplished through Jesus Christ on the cross. Our works are fruits from His grace and further proof of the Spirit. The unsaved will justify themselves by their own works which are filthy rags in comparison to the work of the Lord. The unsaved will deny God’s free gift and rely on his or her own will instead of doing Gods will. Their hearts will harden and they will turn away from the will of God (Romans 9:18).
Saved people, have been granted faith by God. This faith from God produces good works for them, the elect. This is also further proof of their salvation. They are not conditions or means for it as some groups would have you believe. For the elect, spiritual desire, ability, and action toward God are results of eternal life through Christ Jesus, not conditions for it (Philippians 2:13). Since only by God’s glorious power are we brought to desire and obey Him we can be sure that the person whom can’t and won’t is both depraved and spiritually dead.
For the saved person it takes no effort or cooperation to be saved. Jesus does this all on His own. There is only one Saviour - our Lord Jesus Christ. God will not share His glory. In the end all the singing in heaven will be for one, our Saviour and redeemer, the Lamb of God (Revelation 4:11). There will be no sharing in the glory in heaven, Jesus will receive it all. Salvation is of the Lord it’s conditions met by Him and His work on the cross. God chose His elect and in the day of His wrath, His power and glory will be displayed to the saved and unsaved alike. For both were created by Him for this purpose. Let us give a prayer from Dwight L. Moody (1837–1899) for our Saviour, thank you Lord!
Our Savior, for whatever purpose and in whatever way You may require. Here are our poor hearts, empty vessels: Fill them with Your grace. Here are our sinful and troubled souls: Revive them and refresh them with Your love. Take our hearts for Your home; our mouths to spread the glory of Your name; our love and all our powers for the advance- ment of Your believing people; and never feel the steadfastness and confidence of our faith to diminish—so that at all times we may be enabled from the heart to say, “Jesus needs us, and we Him.” Amen.
