Psalm twelve begins with the psalmist crying out to the Lord in grief.
Many of us do this when we have had enough in our daily lives. With all of
the backbiting, bad language, heresy as well as the other evils that takes
place around us day to day, it just becomes overwhelming. Rarely are we
blessed with kind words or do we here praises of our Lord from others. Why?
Well even way back in the times of King David (verse 1) godly people were
quickly vanishing from the earth. It continues on today, thousands of years
later. We hear reports of more and more people giving there lives over to the
Lord, but we know at the same time more are becoming lovers of the world,
consumed by evil. Trusting in themselves and buying into satans lies.
The godly are few while the wicked flourish all around us. (verse 3) Our
ears can’t help but become pierced with blasphemies, gossips, rude and
hurtful rivalries from our neighbors, (verse 2)(the people around us) people
that feel it’s their place to say whatever they want, to whom ever they want,
without prejudice. Like the psalmist says in (verse 4), “Our lips are our
own—who can stop us?” The wicked do not submit to any authority over
them (GOD), so they think they can say whatever they want without
consequences.
To those of us whom know the righteousness of God, we know vengeance
belongs to Him. (verse 5) God promises us of a day of reckoning for wicked
people. God speaks to David and assures him that He does not linger; He
will judge the evil speech of the wicked. Those whom use their words to do
wrong and commit evil on others will have their day. Those whom have not
surrendered their sin to Jesus will carry their very wickedness with them to
Gods final judgment. God promises us this(verse 6), we can be sure in that.
So to those wicked(verse 8) that strut about in their wickedness payment is
coming for wages due. The wages for sin is death! Death to those of you
whom don’t understand what that means is a eternity in hell absent from
God.
For those of us whom have surrendered to the Lord and received the
Holy Spirit, we still struggle day to day with the Holy Spirit to help us fight
against the evil of this perverse wicked world. So let us pray to the Lord
both for our strength to overcome the wickedness that surrounds us, as well
as, pray that those whom do not know the Lord, may come and partake in
His precious grace. Let us pray a prayer from Thomas Kempis (1380–1471)
to help us.

Psalm 12 Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth! Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and insincere hearts. May the Lord bring their flattery to an end and silence their proud tongues. They say, “We will lie to our hearts’ content. Our lips are our own who can stop us?” The Lord replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.” The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land.

Almighty God, you have made all things for us, and us for your glory. Sanctify our body and soul, our thoughts and our intentions, our words and actions, that whatsoever we shall think, or speak, or do, may by us be designed for the glorification of Your name, and let no pride or self-seeking, no impure motive or unworthy praise, no little ends or low imagination stain our spirit, or profane any of our words and actions. But let our body be a servant to our spirit, and both body and spirit servants of Jesus Christ. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
