Pride has been called the universal sin of all, from the highest levels of
life right down to the poorest men on the earth. I can safely say that pride is
found in every persons heart that has ever walked the Earth, except for
Jesus that is. Look among the highest and loftiest people in the world and
you find it all around. Look among the poorest and the most miserable, and
there you shall see it as well in abundance. Pride is not choosy, it settles in
on every person, in one form or another. Pride has been called the ‘mother of
all sins’ because from a persons pride comes conceit, covetousness,
greediness, vanity, lust, selfishness, haughtiness, anger, lies, thievery, and
even murder. “When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble
is wisdom.” (
Proverbs 11:2) It is through the shame of our pride are we
then humbled and thus our wisdom is increased. That is the LORDs love for
us, we are humbled from our pride, and then God’s wisdom is revealed
within it.

Knowing that we have pride helps us gain knowledge and wisdom. We
can use this to evaluate our walk with Christ. We can use our knowledge to
make sure that the kind of pride we posses is the kind that keeps our head
and chin up and not our nose! Pride and arrogance can come from
abundance, achievements, and blessings received from God, that is why it is
so dangerous not to use the wisdom we received from this knowledge.
Knowledge is good, but you must be careful of becoming prideful. What do
you think our LORD thinks of a prideful person? He tells us in the following
passages found in (
Proverbs 21:4; 6:16-19; 8:13; 16:5) “Haughty eyes and a
proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin! There are six things the LORD
hates, seven that are detestable to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet
that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man
who stirs up dissension among brethren. To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I
hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. The LORD
detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.”
When our LORD makes such statements about a sin we better flee from it!

If we find ourselves on this proud path in life there is no need to fret, we
have Jesus to turn us back on His righteous path. Look to and trust in the
LORD when you find yourself not right with Him. He loves you, He will
guide you back. There is one final word to those whom are overtaken by
there pride. (
Proverbs 16:18) ”Pride goes before destruction, a haughty
spirit before a fall.” (
1 Corinthians 10:12) ”So, if you think you are
standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!” (
James 4:6) “But he gives us
more grace. That is why Scripture says:” God opposes the proud but gives
grace to the humble."” Consider your ways my brothers and sisters as we all
need to keep ourselves from pride. Let us Pray!
