Our Walk With
Christ Jesus
By Rev. Mark Vatcher
Life, welcome to the training ground for everlasting life in heaven with our
blessed LORD Jesus Christ. Christians are called at some point in their life to be
partakers in the ultimate glory of God. Having been chosen by God long ago before
even time itself, but chosen nonetheless, according to the LORDS plan at precisely
the right time to start your Christian walk. What is this special walk we have been
chosen to take on life’s journey, well let’s look at this verse from (
Ephesians 5:8)
"You were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Begin walking as
children of light." When we all were still just sinners before our calling we were
merely partakers of the fleshly things in life. Once the Spirit of God moved us to
seek salvation from our sins we then started a new life dead of the flesh and
forever alive the blood of Christ Jesus with the Holy Spirit forever in us. Praise the
LORD isn’t that an awesome gift! Thank you LORD! Now as such, we are to walk
with the LORD properly and here are five basics that we are to continue to do on
our Christian walk.

First of all we need to pray! We build our relationship with the LORD through
prayer, and as Christians have an unbelievable privilege, a direct line to God
through Christ. God's Word tells us "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by
prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let you requests be made known to
God." (
Philippians 4:6) Through prayer we can ask God if our ideas are in His will.
He will answer in His time and in His way.  Please understand that God is not
interested in how we pray but what is in our heart that counts.   An eloquent
prayer is no more powerful than just saying what is on your heart.

Next we are to read the Word every day. God tells us about Himself and His
will for us through the Bible.  Please note that the Bible is referred to in Christian
writings also as Scripture and God's Word or the Word.  Already four times on this
page we have referenced the Bible.   It is important that you understand that "All
Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man and woman of God
may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (
2 Timothy 3:16,17)
As you can see, reading the Bible is critical to your growth as a Christian and is a
central part of our faith. I suggest reading a proverb a day at the least. There are
thirty-one of them, one for everyday, then build a habit from there.

Be a witness to everyone around you.  Well what would a person do if they
are going to have a baby or just got a promotion at their job?  They would naturally
tell someone their good news.  You now have the Good News of Jesus Christ to tell
people about.  You are His witness in what He has done in your life and in your
heart!  You now have eternal life and by spreading His Good News you can bring
other people to the point of receiving eternal life.  Think of friends and relatives
that are on there way to eternal punishment.  You have been commissioned by
Jesus Christ to "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations..."(
Matthew 28:
19
).   Witnessing is one of the good works that all Christians are called to do.

Finally, you need to fellowship with your brothers and sister in Christ. As a
new Christian you have questions that will not be answered here.  Our Lord knew
that Christians need to learn and be with other Christians.  That is why He tells us
to "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and
admonishing one another..." (
Colossians 3:16).   Joining a church is a very
important part of a new Christians walk.  There are many churches and religions in
this world.  A word of warning...Some people will call themselves Christian just to
deceive you.  We are warned of this in His Word.  "For false christs and false
prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive..." (
Matthew 24:
24
).  So l would like to give you some points to help you in choosing a church to
join.
  • The first and most important point is pray, and ask the LORD for His wisdom
in finding the church He wants you to join.

  • The second point is to visit several churches.  See if the service touches you
and reaches your heart. Talk to the members and ask as many questions as
you want.  The members feeling towards the church not necessarily their
words will quickly give you the answers you need.

  • Third and lastly meet with the Pastor.   Ask questions about his beliefs and
the mission of his church.  View our mission as a reference.
Last but certainly not least, live the life Jesus calls us to repentance.  This is
turning from our sins to God.  Are you still watching movies that would disgrace
God, and almost all of Hollywood ’s movies do.   Do you listen to secular music that
tares people down?  Are you still letting your lust or love of money control you?
God tells us to "Examine yourselves..."   (
2 Corinthians 13:5).  If you found that
you have sinned then you need to pray and ask God to forgive your sins and God
promises "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and
to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (
1 John 1:9). You are now part of the
body of Jesus Christ and with that, comes following His commands.  Jesus said "...
by their fruits you will know them. (
Matthew 7:20).   What are fruits?  It is the
things that you do for Him and the way you live your life.  Pray for Him to use you
and when He opens a door, run through it! May the LORD bless you all on you
walk with Him, now let’s pray for Him strength to be with us.
