Let me start with this verse from Proverbs (Proverbs 3: 5, 6) “Trust in the Lord with all
your heart; and lean not onto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge
Him, and He shall direct your paths.” This verse is the best place to start when we want
to understand the benefits of trusting in Jesus. We are exhorted to trust in the Lord
with all our heart. We don't reserve a little bit of it to trusting in something else. We
are not to look to our senses or to our intellect for support, but only to God. If we
acknowledge Jesus in everything we do, He will direct our paths.
(Psalm 37: 3, 4, 5)
“Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and you shall be well
fed. Delight yourselves also in the Lord; and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.”

When we trust in the Lord, He not only meets our needs, but also give us the desires of
our heart. The Bible mentions many benefits of trusting in God. Let me fill you in on a
few of those benefits. The first one is having happiness in our lives.
(Proverbs 16: 20)
“He that handles a matter wisely shall find good: and whoever so trusts in the Lord,
happy is he.”  We the citizens of the United States are a lucky breed. The United States
Declaration of Independence states that all people have the right of "the pursuit of
happiness". If you really wish to acquire happiness, rather than pursue it, trust in the
Lord. Many of us go wrong when we think its automatic to have happiness as a God
given right. It not automatic, just look around. Why are there are so many unhappy
Americans? Why do you think my friends? It has to do with trusting in God and so
many of us don’t.

Second we will have spiritual fatness and health when we put our trust in Him.
(Proverbs 28: 25) “He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife: but he that puts his trust in
the Lord shall be made fat (spiritually).” Trusting in the Lord makes you physically
healthy as well, but spiritually you will really be on top of things. You will never be
spiritually sick or when you do feel sick the Lord will be quick to pull you out of it.
Even the most godly of people can still take a beaten by fiery darts being thrown at
them. But we can dawn our full armor of God when we trust in Him, and it saves us.

We next can have safety when we put our trust in Him.
(Proverbs 29: 25) “The fear of
man brings a snare: but whoever puts his trust in the Lord shall be safe.” If you are not
trusting in God, you will have fear which will snare you. Trusting in God ensures
safety.

Our Lord will have mercy on us when we need it.
(Psalm 32: 10) “Many sorrows shall
be to the wicked: but he that trusts in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about.”  This
verse states that you will be surrounded by mercy if you trust in the Lord.

He will deliver us when we need to be delivered.
(Psalm 22: 4, 5)  “Our fathers trusted
in You: they trusted, and You would deliver them. They cried out to You, and were
delivered: they trusted in You, and were not confounded.” Believers in the Old
Testament, when they trusted in God, were delivered from their enemies. We can also
be delivered and rescued from things that attempt to oppress us today, if we trust in
the Lord.

The Holy Spirit stands ready to help us when we call on Him.
(Psalm 28: 7) “The Lord is
my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my
heart greatly rejoices; and with my song will I praise Him” Jesus is very willing and
able to help us, if we would only let Him. By trusting in the Lord, we can obtain His
help.

There will be nothing to worry us and we will can be care free.
(Psalm 5: 11) “But let all
those that put their trust in the Lord rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because He
defends them: let them also that love His name be joyful in Him.” Trusting in God
means that He will take care of us. We have no reason to worry about anything, and
should have plenty of time to be joyful and rejoice.

God will give us refuge from every evil thing that comes our way. (Psalm 62: 8) “Trust
in him at all times; you people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us.”
(Psalm 91: 2) “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him
will I trust.” Trusting in God provides a refuge for us. In times of trouble or sorrow He
is there to protect us.

Christ is our salvation from our sin.
(Isaiah 12: 2) “ Behold, God is my salvation; I will
trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord God is my strength and my song; He also has
become my salvation.” By trusting in God, we too can claim His salvation.

We are guiltless to our Lord.
(Psalms 34: 22 ) “The Lord redeems the soul of his servants:
and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.” How can we be full of
condemnation and guilt if we are trusting in the Lord? We can’t our Lord died on the
cross and rose up to save us from that.

Our Lord Jesus Christ gives us peace and strength to deal in any situation that may
come our way.
(Isaiah 26: 3, 4) “God will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind stays on
Him: because he trusts in God. Trust in the Lord forever: for in the Lord God is
everlasting strength:” Trusting only in God brings perfect peace. There is nothing else
in the world to trust that can bring peace in your heart.

We shall have no fear when we fully trust in Him for all things.
(Psalm 56: 3, 4)  “times I
am afraid, I will trust in Him. In God I will praise His Word, in God have I put my
trust; I will not fear what flesh can do to me.”
(Psalm 56: 11) “In God have I put my
trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.”
(Psalm 112: 7) “He shall not be
afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.” Have you seen the decals
that some people have on the windows of their trucks? The decals say "NO FEAR". If
you really want NO FEAR, you don't need any decals, just trust in the Lord. We never
need to be afraid of any person, or of evil thing. Our mind is fixed, unmovable, trusting
in the Lord. Here's a better saying that has truth behind it: "Know God = No Fear". The
Bible also tells us that we should trust in the Word of God since God is His Word.
Trusting in the power of God's Word is trusting in the Lord.
(Psalm 119: 42) “So shall I
have an answer for him that reproached me: for I trust in Your Word.” By trusting in
the Word of God, we have the answer to every turn of events that may happen.

All of my previous examples were from the Old Testament. There are also records in the
Gospels which concludes and fulfills the Law, and the New Testament on the benefits
we receive when we trust only in God.
(Matthew 6: 31 – 34) “Therefore take no thought,
saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, How shall we be clothed? (For
after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knows that you
have need of all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God, and His
righteousness; and all these things shall be added onto you.”

Jesus was telling the people to put God first in their lives. That was the only way to
insure that all their needs would be met. Worrying about finances, their job, or
whatever, is unbelief. With unbelief, there is no trust in God.
(II Corinthians 1: 8, 9, 10)
“For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in
Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, in so much that we
despaired even of life: But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should
not trust in ourselves, but in God which raises the dead: Who delivered us from so
great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that He will yet deliver us;”

Paul and some other believers ran into a lot of trouble in Asia. They couldn't trust in
their own ability to save themselves. If they did, they never would have made it. It was
only by trusting in God, constantly and on a daily basis, that they were delivered.
(II
Corinthians 3: 4, 5)
“And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: Not that we
are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of
God;” Trusting in ourselves does not make us sufficient. Trusting in God is the answer.
Why can we trust in God? Because He is all light.
(I John 1: 5) “This then is the message
which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no
darkness at all.”

God cannot do evil. God is also our Father, and we have His gift of the Holy Spirit
within us. Our earthly fathers are human and can make mistakes. That can never
happen with God, so we can always trust Him completely. So, for now, and in
conclusion of this, let me now briefly return to the Old Testament. The Bible very
clearly shows the difference between trusting in worldly things versus trusting in the
Lord.
(Proverbs 11: 28)  “He that trusts in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall
flourish as a branch.” We can 'fall', or we can 'flourish', depending on whether we put
our trust in riches or in God.
(Proverbs 28: 26) “He that trusts in his own heart is a fool:
but whosoever walks wisely, he shall be delivered.” Someone who trusts solely in his
own abilities is a fool.
(Psalms 146: 3)  “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of
man, in whom there is no help.” Don't trust in mankind, because when it comes right
down to it, you will receive no help.
(Jeremiah 17: 5 – 8) “Thus said the Lord: Cursed be
the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh [the five senses] his arm, and whose heart
departs from the Lord. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see
when good comes; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land
and non inhabited. Blessed is the man that trusts in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord
is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the
river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be
careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”

Trusting in man will leave you parched, high, and dry. Trusting in the Lord means you
will have comfort, no want, and will always bear fruit. We see from all these records
that we must trust in God in order to live a more than abundant life without stress,
worry, or fear. If we trust in man, money, or our own abilities, the end result will be
failure. Trusting  in the Lord is the only way to go.
(II Samuel 22: 3) “The God of my
Rock; in Him will I trust: He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower,
and my refuge, my saviour; He saves me from violence.” In God we shall trust forever
and ever. Now let us pray on this as we renew our faith in God and trust Him for all
things.
