Sermon #2
The Holy Trinity of God
By Rev. Mark E. Vatcher
What is the Trinity and how is it explained to us. Let's start with 1st John 5:7 “For there are three that bear witness in
heaven: the Father, the Word(Jesus), and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” Jesus Spoke to us in John 10:30 when
He said “ I and my Father are one.” The Lord Jesus and the God in Heaven are one God. In the very beginning of the bible,
in the verse Gen 1:2 “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of
God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Notice in this verse God has separated Himself and told us His Spirit
hovered over the water. Later Gen 1:26 it say’s “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our
likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and
over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Who is Us and Our in that verse brethren? That Us and Our is the Holy
Trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. From the beginning, all three were there, from the foundations of creation.
Listen to Jesus when He spoke in John 8:56-58 to the Jews “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it
and was glad.” Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” Jesus said to
them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” Jesus was there at the very beginning of creation with
the Father and the Spirit. Before Abraham was, I AM. This speaks Abraham a creature and our Lord the Creator; well,
therefore, might He make himself greater than Abraham. I AM, is the name of God, Ex 3:14; it speaks his self-existence;
He is the First and the Last, ever the same, Rev 1:8. Thus he was not only before Abraham, but before all worlds, Pr 8:
23; John 1:1. As Mediator, he was the appointed Messiah, long before Abraham; the Lamb slain from the foundation of
the world, Rev 13:8.
The Lord Jesus was made of God Wisdom, Righteousness, Sanctification, and Redemption, to Adam, and Abel, and all that
lived and died by faith in him, before Abraham. When we repent of our sins and are baptized, does the Lord not tell us in
Matt 28:18-19 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit,” the blessed Trinity of God. Three persons wholly God, equal in power and glory, and possesses precisely the same
attributes and perfection acting in perfect unison as one God. Deut 6:4
