Sermon 12 Spending Eternity
By Rev. Mark E. Vatcher
Eternity itself has no beginning and no end; everyone knows that, even though it is hard for our human mind to grasp
such a concept. God gave us the realm with time that we all know so well. Heaven on the other hand, has no time. A
bit harder for us to understand. This is where God is, has been, and will be for all eternity. The LORD God is eternal
without beginning or end. (Psalm 93:2) “Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity.” When we die
in the flesh and our lives are over here on earth, we will enter this timeless realm called eternity with God, and spend
our eternal lives there with Him. Or for a non-believer, they will reap what they sow in this life.
There are Two creatures created by God that have a beginning but no end, those being the angels of heaven and us
humans here on earth. Both created for Gods glory, both live eternally forever and ever. Although humans have a
death of the flesh, our spirits will have no end. Both angels and humans exercise free will; this will ultimately determine
were angels and humans spend eternity. For a Christian this means spending it in eternal bliss with God in Heaven.
The same for the angels that chose to serve God over satan. For humans whom chose to deny that God sent His only
begotten Son to wash away all the sins from the world, eternity will be spent without God in eternal torment away from
God, without relief.
If you chose to worship earthly things like money, sex, material things, or even false gods or prophets and ignore the
one true God, He will in return, give you what you chose in life. Spending eternity separate from God with no second
chances. Nothing unholy will remain in the presence of God, and will be cast out into the pit of everlasting fire. (1 Peter
1:16) because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
There will be eternal sorrow and suffering. (Revelation 20:15) “If anyone’s name is not found in the book of life, he will
be thrown into the lake of fire.” How is it that Christians are found in the book of life and others names will not be found
there? A Christian has made a choice to have faith in a God we cannot see, and believe what only some have
witnessed. (John 20:29) Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. “Blessed are
those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Are you a doubting Thomas? We believe God so loved the world,
He sent his only begotten Son, so we can have eternal life. Is this not embedded into your hearts? God and you are
the only ones who truly know whether it is in your heart. If it is not found there you will be cast out of His holy presence
for eternity.
Look into your own hearts and examine yourself. Are you a worshiper of our Lord Jesus Christ or do you need to
check yourself? Look at what Jesus commands us in (Matthew 7:3-5) "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in
your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take
the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of
your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.” We should check ourselves
and then recheck ourselves again. A process we need to repeat until we die. Do this exercise daily and keep yourself
straight on the path to God’s salvation. This is for all eternity; there will be no second chance once you have been
cast out. Let us all examine ourselves to insure we are found in the book of life on judgment day. Let us be holy like
God wants us to be, and partake in the glorious gifts God has for us here and forever. Be a holy example for others,
and conduct yourselves as good followers of our loving LORD Jesus Christ. Now let us pray:
We praise Your holy Name LORD! Our desire is to be good servants for you here in this life, and spend all eternity
worshiping You in heaven. We know we are yours and rely on you for everything. We give You thanks for all that you
do for us. Thank you LORD for loving us so much You sent Your Son Jesus to wash us from our sins. Without that we
would have no hope of ever being in Your holy presence. Praise You Most High! We love You for You are worthy of all
praise and honor. Forgive us and strengthen us with the full armor of God to combat the sins that surround us in this
world. We pray in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ. Amen.
