~ Edification For Today's Christian Women ~
Gossip
By Pennie Vatcher
Did you hear?  You are never going to believe what the Pastor's wife did!  How
many of you are dieing to know what I did?  And after you find out, how many of
you can't wait to share it with others?  Women love to talk.  It is said that we need to
verbalize
10,000 more words a day than a man.  What do you use your words for?
Do you use them for edification of the body of Christ or for your own flesh?

Are you a busybody, a gossip, a slanderer, someone who likes to spreads rumors?
Do you stretch the truth?  Are you always in other peoples business?  The Bible
warns us about being this type of person and it grieves God when we behave this
way.

DO NOT GRIEVE THE SPIRIT

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary
edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit
of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.  Let all bitterness,
wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
(
Ephesians 4:25-30)

I know a woman that is always in other peoples business.  She is your classic
busybody!  I have to pray often that I do not become bitter towards her. A woman
like this is untrustworthy and has very few intimate friends, if any. The thing that
grieves me the most about this particular woman is that she is a Sister in Christ.  I
pray for her daily and hope that the Holy Spirit convicts her of her sin and that she
would be freed from this bondage of being a busybody.

I honestly believe that women like this are lonely; they desperately need
companionship, companionship that can only be filled through Christ. What are we
to do about people like this?  We are to pray for them, and let them know that our
God of love can fill that space of loneliness in her heart. He will be their most
intimate friend if they would diligently seek Him.  They must die to their flesh and
live for Christ, and only then, will they have the power to use their words to edify
others instead of tearing them down.

But before we can go to our Sisters in Christ we must first check our own hearts to
see if we are guilty of the same sin.  At times, if we are truly honest with ourselves,
we have all been guilty of gossip or being a busy body, but as Christians we should
never be practicing it.  As we daily seek His face the Holy Spirit fills us up, and we
learn the self-control we need to glorify Him.  Make sure you are a clean vessel
before our Lord, and then you will be ready to be used by the Spirit, to help your
Sisters in Christ.

Matthew 7:1-5
"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be
judged: and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.  And why do
you look at the speck in your brother's (sister's) eye, but do not consider the plank in
your own eye?  Or how can you say to your brother, let me remove the speck form
your eye, and look a plank is in your own eye?  Hypocrite!  First remove the plank
form you own eye and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your
brothers (sister's) eye."

The Bible is full of wisdom and knowledge, and it tells us if we could get control of
one thing we would be perfect. Our mouths!

The Un-tamable Tongue!
James 3:2
"For we all stumble in many of things.  If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a
perfect man able to bridle the whole body.  Indeed we put bits in horses mouths that
they may obey us, and we turn their whole body.  Look also at ships: although they
are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder
wherever the pilot desires.  Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great
things.  See how great a forest a little fire kindles!  And the tongue is a fire, a world
of iniquity.  The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body,
and sets on fire the course of nature:  and it is set on fire by hell.  For every kind of
beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by
mankind.  But no man can tame the tongue.   It is an unruly evil, full of deadly
poison.  With it we bless out God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have
been made in the similitude of God.  Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and
cursing.  My brethren these things ought not be so. "

Let us always remember that we are here on this earth to bring others to Christ and
we are to be an example of Him. Non-believers watch our behavior very closely, and
if we are back biting and devouring others, they will not want to have any part in
Christianity or our Lord Jesus.  I do not know about you, but I do not want to have
to stand before my Lord, and give an explanation on why I stumbled so many with
my words.   Remember we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!
Let's Pray,

Father we love You and our hearts desire is to be
pleasing in your sight. We need your help Lord!  We
can do nothing with out You, so we ask Lord that you
help us to have control of our tongues, and that our
words would be used to edify others and glorify You.
Our spirit is willing, but at times, our flesh is weak.
Forgive us Lord when we fail in this area of our lives.
We ask that You make us a clean vessel to be used by
You! Give us the courage we need to stand firm in
your truth, and the strength to hold others believers
accountable. In Jesus precious name we pray,
Amen.
